ADULT AUTISM ASSESSMENT

Diagnostic Assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorders

Our team has a wealth of experience in providing a seamless diagnostic assessment service for adults. Our adult assessment service is in keeping with the standards outlined in the NICE guidelines, meeting NHS requirements. Our assessment process also meets the requirements and standards outlined by the Health Service Executive (HSE).

All assessments carried out at Lancefield private clinic are delivered by a multidisciplinary team. On completion of assessment, a detailed diagnostic report will be provided.

Services offered;

  • Pre assessment consultation

  • Comprehensive multidisciplinary autism assessment

What does our assessment involve?

Once contact is made with out clinic, you will be sent some questionnaires and a booking form via email to complete. On receipt of the questionnaires and booking form, a clinician will contact you to decide whether or not a pre assessment consultation may be necessary before embarking on a comprehensive autism assessment.

Pre assessment consultation (optional)

We offer a virtual or face to face appointment to gather some background information from you. This is to guide you in making a decision about whether or not an autism assessment would be beneficial for you.

Autism Assessment

The autism assessment primarily involves two key components. We aim to complete both parts in one day, with an hour break in between.

1. Neurodevelopmental History

This is a detailed interview which usually lasts approximately two hours. The clinician will guide you through exploring your early history and school years, as well as discussing any present day challenges. We encourage the client to attend with a supporting parent, partner, sibling, close friend or carer who knows you well.

2. Clinical Assessment

The ADOS-2 assessment adult module will be used as a framework for the clinical assessment. This tool is conversation based and is designed to elicit features of autism within a relaxed and informal session.

What happens next?

After both elements of the assessment are completed, your clinicians will give you some verbal feedback on the day. The clinical team will then complete a diagnostic formulation and write a detailed report. The DSM5 Criteria for Autism will be used.

Around three weeks after the assessment, you will be invited to come back to review this comprehensive report and assessment findings. The final report will be discussed, and details within the report clarified. This appointment can be face to face or virtual to suit your requirements.

Time will be spent discussing any onwards referrals or sign posting to support as required.

We endeavour to help adults understand their unique profile of strengths and challenges within the context of an autism diagnosis.
