A Bit About Emer
Emer Maguire is proud to be the Patron of Lancefield Private Clinic. Emer has a diagnosis of autism and OCD, and is passionate about educating others on these (particularly how autism presents in women, non binary folks, and adults). Emer works with Lancefield to raise awareness of autism, to increase acceptance for all, and to celebrate neurodiversity.
Hailing from Strabane, Emer is based in Belfast and has performed worldwide to global acclaim. In 2015, she was named best science communicator in the UK. In 2017, she went on to be named best science communicator in the world at the Science Stars competition in Kazakhstan. A year later, Emer won several IMRO radio awards for her presenting work with BBC, winning prizes in the categories of best new presenter and best specialist speech program. Emer then moved into the comedy space, and quickly became an extremely popular and highly acclaimed artist across the UK and Ireland. Her debut run at Edinburgh Fringe sold out, and Emer has sold out famous stalwart venues across Northern Ireland, from the Ulster Hall to the Grand Opera House. She is currently on her first tour across Northern Ireland. Emer talks openly about her autism and OCD diagnoses on stage and on radio, and has been applauded for her candid and sincere approach to discussing both diagnoses.
Emer is keenly aware of the strengths and challenges associated with autism. This is due to her own lived experience, and also due to the fact that she was a practicing Speech and Language Therapist for years before a career change to performing. Emer also provides communication trainings for universities and companies, and is passionate about communication in all it's forms (particularly as this is someone she struggled with as a child). With Emer's varied background and experience, she is uniquely positioned to act as the Patron of Lancefield, and we are very proud to work with her.
